Where to stay in Kotor?

Stay in the heart of history, in Kotor's Old Town district

Known as the heart of Kotor, the Old Town district is a veritable historical treasure trove. Reputed to be the liveliest district, it's home to numerous tourist attractions such as the Kampana Tower, a medieval bastion from the top of which you can enjoy a panoramic view. You can also visit the Sea Gate, St. Tryphon's Cathedral, the Old Town walls fortress and the many museums in the district.

Staying in Old Town allows you to wander the cobbled streets and discover the picturesque architecture of the buildings, stroll through the lively little squares and take some great photos at the Kotor city walls.

Tivat airport is less than ten kilometers away by car. An hour's drive will take you to the famous Krusevica hiking trail and the Mausoleum of Petar, with its breathtaking mountain views. If you want to relax on Kotor beach, it's just a ten-minute walk.

The Old Town district is where you'll find the most bars and restaurants. Known for its festive atmosphere, travelers appreciate the hospitality of the locals. We recommend you try the Konoba Trpeza or the Rooftop Terrace Hippocampus. For a drink, travelers recommend the "Old Town" Kotor Pub.

In terms of accommodation, you'll find mainly Michelin-starred hotels and apartments. Rates can easily vary according to location.

Accommodation in Dobrota, along the Bay of Kotor

Located in the municipality of Kotor, Dobrota is considered by travelers to be a peaceful place. Putting down your suitcases in this small village allows you to get away from the tourist crowds while staying in a heavenly setting, surrounded by beautiful beaches and unmissable hiking trails.

Renowned for its relaxing atmosphere, staying in Dobrota means opting for a destination brimming with natural landscapes. Surrounded by mountains, travelers appreciate the breathtaking views over the Bay of Kotor. Also known for its cultural heritage, you can explore the Boka Aquarium, visit the church of Saint Matthias or relax on the magnificent beach of Galebova Stijena.

For the more adventurous, it's possible to walk along the Bay of Kotor and reach the historic center in less than an hour. The airport is twelve kilometers away. Even if most travellers get around on foot, we recommend renting a car, as this will enable you to reach the region's must-see sites: Mount Lovcen, an hour's drive away, or the medieval castle of San Giovani, around four kilometers away.

As far as accommodation is concerned, there's something for everyone, although seaside hotels are bound to be more expensive.

Staying among the mountains in the village of Skaljari

Nestled among the mountains, Skaljari lies to the south of Kotor. Renowned for its natural beauty, picturesque scenery and proximity to must-see hiking trails, it's a small village appreciated for the warmth of its inhabitants and the unique charm of its architecture.

Staying in Skaljari means choosing to stay close to several tourist attractions, such as its famous fortress. You can also take the Kotor Serpentine road and stop off at various viewpoints, such as Montblack or Panorama Tivat Bay and Kotor Bay.

The old town of Kotor can be reached in an hour's walk. If you have a car, you can get there in ten minutes. Kotor beach is less than six kilometers away, and if you want to visit Dobrota, it's only a half-hour's drive. There isn't much parking space, so it's advisable to opt for a place to stay with private parking.

Bars and restaurants are less plentiful. However, you can fill both with a good meal at Incontro Bar&Food or Ladovina Kitchen & Wine Bar.

Where to stay in Skaljari, prices are fairly low. There are also fewer accommodations, most of which are apartments for rent or small hotels.

Lodging west of Kotor Bay, in the small village of Muo

Muo is located on the other side of the bay and is appreciated for its calm and relaxing atmosphere. Known for its traditional architecture, narrow streets and long walks along the bay, you'll enjoy the superb scenery combining sea and mountains.

It's an ideal place for travelers who want to stay away from the hustle and bustle, yet still be in an unmissable natural setting. For hiking enthusiasts, there's the Franz Joseph Stairs trail. Not far from the village, you'll find the famous Suzuki Rock viewpoint.

If you don't already have a car, we strongly recommend renting one as soon as you arrive in Montenegro. You can then easily reach the historic center of Kotor, just a ten-minute drive away. You can also walk along the bay to the village of Dobrota in less than an hour. The airport is around ten kilometers away.

Although Muo is less lively than Kotor, it nevertheless boasts a number of bars and restaurants. As far as accommodation is concerned, rates are, for the most part, quite affordable.

Stay in Perast, northwest of Kotor

Although not a village very close to Kotor, Perast is often considered one of the most beautiful and culturally rich places in Montenegro. The view over the bay, the well-preserved picturesque architecture, the churches and the warm, traditional atmosphere are just some of the reasons why travelers enjoy staying in Perast.

If you choose to stay in this village, you'll rarely find time to get bored. You can relax on the beach, visit the Andrija Fortress or take a boat trip to the island of Notre Dame du Rocher.

The village is eight kilometers from Dobrota and a twenty-minute drive from Kotor. Muo is a little further away, around fifteen kilometers. Most travelers get around on foot, but it's a good idea to rent a car if you want to get around easily.

Perast is home to a number of cafés and restaurants where you can sample local specialities, including seafood. As far as accommodation is concerned, the price of a room can easily vary.
