The essentials for choosing where to stay in Saint-Tropez

Budget

It's best to plan ahead when visiting Saint-Tropez. There's a lot of luxury accommodation, and the price per night can quickly rise. Restaurants, cafés and boutiques are generally quite expensive too.

Taking the car

To make the most of the region and its beaches, we recommend you take your own car or rent one locally. This will make it easier for you to get around and discover the Var.

Summer season

A popular summer destination, Saint-Tropez quickly becomes overcrowded in July and August. To avoid the crowds and the inflated prices, opt for an off-season stay.

Lodging in the heart of the city

If you want to stay in the center of the village and enjoy all its attractions on foot, we recommend you choose downtown and Vieux Saint-Tropez. You'll be close to the beaches and monuments.

The jetset experience

To enjoy the nightlife on the beaches of Pampelonne and discover the electric atmosphere that reigns there, Ramatuelle's accommodations are the best placed.

Staying across the Gulf

The town of Sainte-Maxime is ideal for enjoying the Provencal atmosphere at a lower cost. Ferries make it easy to get to Saint-Tropez.

Places to stay in Saint-Tropez

Let’s get to the heart of the matter with a review of the main areas where we recommend staying in Saint-Tropez.

Downtown: staying in the heart of Saint-Tropez

Port of Saint-Tropez

If you want to live the "Saint-Tropez" experience to the full, we recommend staying in the center of town. Here, you'll be immersed in a Provencal atmosphere, between the colorful buildings typical of the region and the thousand-flavored markets.

You can sit on a café terrace and admire the yachts and fishing boats in the harbor, before strolling through the winding, picturesque streets dotted with designer boutiques.

The Lices district abounds with Provencal restaurants, charming little cafés and boutiques, as well as the nightclubs for which the town is famous.

Numerous hotels cluster near the port and beaches, offering magnificent views over the bay. On the other hand, prices rise very quickly in this area, rarely dropping below 150e a night, even in low season. Accommodations in the city center are quickly snapped up, so we advise you to book your Tropezian stay well in advance.

Old Saint-Tropez

Behind its picture-postcard exterior, Vieux Saint-Tropez is brimming with history and unique sites. These include the Musée des Papillons and the Musée de l'Annonciade, two art museums that immerse visitors in a world all their own.

If you're a history buff, you can visit a number of must-see sites, including the Portalet and Suffren Towers, the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church, and the Citadelle and its museums. You can also follow the sentier du Littoral (coastal path) along the latter, for a hike between land and sea.

You'll find something of the small fishing village of yesteryear, with its colorful buildings, cobbled streets and flowering balconies, and above all its picturesque old port. You can sample local specialities and freshly caught seafood in the restaurants that crowd the harbour and narrow streets.

Here too, accommodation is particularly popular. Lodging in Vieux Saint-Tropez is rather expensive, due to the ideal location and the luxurious nature of the establishments. The medieval village of Ramatuelle is just a 15-minute drive from Saint-Tropez. At 130m above sea level, it overlooks the Bay of Pampelonne. If the name sounds familiar, it's not surprising: this bay is home to 5km of the Var's most famous beaches, including Tahiti beach and Pampelonne beach.

Renowned for its clubs, high-end restaurants and V.I.P. service, the Baie de Pampelonne contrasts with the calm of Ramatuelle and the finesse of its vineyards.

Although physically close to the festive hustle and bustle, the calm and picturesque aspect of this wine-growing village makes you forget the electric atmosphere that reigns at the seaside. Here, you can take your time to soak up the sun, stroll through the narrow, snail-like streets and discover the hidden treasures of this discreet yet charming place.

Ramatuelle is the ideal place to stay if you want to enjoy the nightlife of Pampelonne and the peace and quiet of a Provencal village. The cost of accommodation is rather high, but hotels here offer impeccable service and usually have swimming pools.

However, you'll need to bring your own car: the hilltop village is not very well served, and Ramatuelle is more than 5km from Saint-Tropez.

It's almost like being in Venice, enjoying the Mediterranean sunshine and freshly caught seafood.

There's relatively little accommodation here, but prices are more affordable than in the neighboring city - even if you choose to stay right on the harbor! But be sure to book your accommodation in advance to make sure you have room. The charm of this small village builds its reputation year after year, attracting more and more tourists.
